Fear is the biggest challenge most business owners face. It will cause you to be impatient and indecisive. It will cause you to place blame on other people or other things and not take responsibility for your business.

Fear can cause you to retract from your family and the people who are trying to help you.

That is not a formula for success. It will almost guarantee failure.

Successful people learn to overcome fear. Unsuccessful people are incapacitated with fear. It really depends on your perspective. It depends on how you view failure.

Successful people don’t see failure the same way as unsuccessful people. Successful people generally view failure as an opportunity to learn. Their mistakes are just results or outcomes.

Unsuccessful people take failure personally. They attempt something, it doesn’t work, and they either quit or refuse to take responsibility for something not working.

In reality, they could be very close to achieving success in their endeavor if they would just take a step back, see what went wrong, learn from their mistakes, and move forward.

Here are six ways to overcome fear:

1. Change your perspective. Change the way you look at mistakes and failure. Look for the lesson you should have learned and move forward.

2. Take action. This is probably the most powerful weapon you have to overcome fear. Just get moving and gain momentum as quickly as possible.

3. Give yourself a break. Don’t be so hard on yourself. It's not permanent, and it's not the end of the world regardless of what you think.

4. Persistence will go a long way towards helping you overcome fear. Don’t stop. Keep moving forward. Check out John C. Maxwell’s book “Failing Forward”.

5. Don’t take it personally. Failure or making a few mistakes does not make you a failure.

6. Write down your fears on a piece of paper and live with them for a few days. Are they real and justified or just something you made up? The basis of fear is all in your mind. Control your mind and you control your fear.

Don’t let fear paralyze you and keep you from taking action. Get comfortable being uncomfortable. Embrace failure and embrace your mistakes. Learn what you can from all your actions and move forward with the confidence that you now have more information that will keep you from making the same mistakes twice.
