Free is a great way to gain the trust of a prospect, break into a new market, and make more money.

For example, if you want to gain the trust of a prospect, you could offer your prospect a free sample of your product or service. It could be something as simple as a free 10 minute phone consultation, a white paper, a special report, or free audio CD.

This allows them to get to know you and trust you enough to do business with you.

If you want to break into a new market, you could offer your services for free to a friend you may have in the industry or to someone else you trust and want to help in exchange for an endorsement of your services.

They get something that will improve their business and make them more money. You gain entry into that market. Most of the time, that can be much more valuable than anything they could pay you.

Everybody wins!

Companies do "free" all the time. Mailchimp.com is an email delivery service that has a great program for free. You can store up to 2000 subscribers and send 12,000 emails every month for free. Their next level of pricing ranges from $15 to $240 per month.

So as your business grows and your needs change, you have the opportunity to stay with a service you have used for a while and trust.

There are a few things to be aware of when delivering "free".

1. Both parties have to benefit from the transaction, just as if your prospect were paying you. It has to be a mutually beneficial transaction for both parties or you should not do it.

2. You still have to deliver value, even though you are not charging for your product or service.

3. Don't "give away the farm" when it comes to your time.

What product or service do you have that you could offer for free?

When you fully understand the concept of "free", you will have more clients, increased sales, and make more money.
