Where you are now is the result of the choices you've made in the past.

I've heard this statement many times and believe it to be true in most cases, especially as it applies to your business.

Being a self-employed person requires you to make choices every day. When you get out of bed in the morning you make choices that will determine the amount of success you achieve in your business and in your life.

If you are struggling in your business, think about the choices you make every day.

Are you getting on the phone and making sales calls?

If you are not doing this, your sales may be down. You have made the choice to remain broke and to continue to struggle in your business because you chose not to make the sales calls.

Do you get to the end of the day and find yourself making excuses for not getting everything done?

Then you are making the wrong choices concerning how you spend your time. Instead of running errands, mowing the lawn, or spending too much time on Facebook, you may need to research a few companies to build your prospect list or make a few follow-up phone calls.

Maybe you need to read a book that will improve your life, help you develop a new skill, or help you grow your business. Can't do that? Don't have time?

Could you get up an hour earlier every morning to read? It's your choice.

You will find most successful people get more done between 5am and 8am than most people get done all day. That is the choice they make and that is why they are successful.

How much time did you spend watching football games last weekend? Could that time have been used to learn a new skill? Could you have used that time to do something that would increase your income or build your business?

Hopefully by now you are getting an idea of what I am trying to say. Every day you make choices that will impact the rest of your life.

I have to admit that I don't make the right choices sometimes. But I am becoming more aware of how I spend my time, and I am striving every day to make better choices because I know that is the only road to success.

I know the decisions I make today will determine my future. It really is that simple.

So before you run that errand, mow the lawn, or chase some shiny object that may or may not contribute to the growth of your business, think about the choices you are making.

Instead of complaining because you are not as successful as someone else or making excuses (translated - "it's the economy"), maybe you just need to make better choices.

After all ... it's your choice to make.
