The Shake Weight debuted just over a year ago and has sold over 2,000,000 units since its introduction.

Much of the reason for the success of this product can be attributed to "going viral".

The product was featured on The Jimmy Kimmel Show, Ellen, The View, and there was also a parody of the product on Saturday Night Live. The video had millions of hits the first week it was launched.

Its inventor, Johann Verheem, said he had no idea the infomercial for Shake Weight would go viral. It wasn't a planned event or intentional on his part.

He got all this advertising and promotion that, if he had to pay for it, would have cost millions. But it was free.

As business owners, you now have more opportunity to promote and market your products or services than you've ever had in the history of marketing ... if you embrace change and embrace technology

I send this newsletter every week with very little or no cost. Just a few short years ago, I would have been spending hundreds or thousands of dollars on postage to do this. Now I can use technology to launch a newsletter campaign to my growing list of subscribers without increasing my delivery costs.

Think about how social media has changed the landscape of networking, making contacts, and growing your list. You can develop and implement an effective social media strategy in as little as 15 minutes a day.

Some people are a little slow in embracing social media as a means to grow their business while others are reaping the rewards that social media can deliver, if used properly. The two key words here are "used properly".

It takes more to develop a social media campaign than simply opening a Facebook account.

There are also pay-per-click marketing tools like Google AdWords and Facebook Ads that can be had for just a few dollars a month to promote your products and services. You only pay when someone clicks on your ad, and you set the budget, and you write the ad. You have total control over the process.

There are a lot of options out there in the technology arena. Pick one, embrace it, and learn everything you can about it or hire a consultant who can come in and lay a foundation for getting started using these tools.

It's worth investing a little of your time every day into learning how to use technology more effectively. If you think any of this is going away, then think again. It will continue to grow and evolve over time. It is here to stay.
