How many times have you heard the phrase, "People like to buy, but they don't like to be sold." I agree.
I also believe in the attraction factor, using social media, word-of-mouth, and all the other ways business owners have for promoting their business.
BUT ... you still have to get out of your office, out of your house, pick up the phone, meet people, and sell. Of course, you only have to do this if you want to make money.
Zig Ziglar said the three rules of selling are:
1. Get out and see the people.
2. Get out and see the people.
3. Get out and see the people.
What is keeping you from doing this?
Is it fear? Fear can be paralyzing. It can keep you from taking action and doing the things you know you should be doing to grow your business. The basis of fear is all in your mind. Control your mind and you control your fear.
Is it because you don't believe you can effectively communicate your message to your target market? The best way to learn how to communicate with your target market is to just start doing it. You can sit at home and write sales scripts all day every day, but until you get in front of your prospects, you won't know if it works.
This is not rocket science. You have an amazing product or service to offer to the world. You are doing yourself and everyone else a disservice by keeping it to yourself because you are afraid of selling.
So it's time to change your perspective about selling and it's time to change the way you look at mistakes and failure.
Just take action. You will make mistakes, you will be rejected, and you will fall on your face a few times. But that's okay. Look for the lesson to be learned, stay motivated, and keep moving forward.
Failure and setbacks are not permanent, and it's not the end of the world regardless of what you may think at the time. Failing or making a few mistakes does not make you a failure.
More than likely you started your business because it is your passion. Share that passion and excitement with your target audience.
Just have fun and don't worry about being a "professional" salesperson. Be yourself. Be authentic.
Selling really is that simple. Don't make it harder than it has to be.
