If you don't have clarity of purpose, you can't build a successful business.

One of the biggest mistakes business owners, professionals, and entrepreneurs make is not having clarity of purpose.

Clarity of purpose will give you a better sense of direction as you decide which tasks to work on in your business or how many sales calls to make for the week or where you need to place your focus.

Having clarity of purpose will keep you in line with your goals and what you want to accomplish in your business and in your life.

But you want to make sure you have the right clarity of purpose for where you are now.

Here is an example. If you are not surviving in your business or struggling, then your clarity of purpose should be making money.

And drop all the garbage. I can hear you saying "I want to change people's lives" or "I want to make a difference" or "I'm not focused on money".

Here is the deal. It's hard to make a difference if you're broke and struggling because your focus is going to be on making your house payment or car payment or just buying food. So don't feel guilty if your clarity of purpose at this moment is making money.

Most people want to make a difference in people's lives. I know I do. But at the same time you have to make a living and make more money so you can help more people. It's that simple.

How do you get clarity of purpose?

Here are four things that will help - get clear on what you want, get clear on why you want it, get clear on what success means to you. And finally, get clear on what your clarity of purpose should be at this point in your business by assessing where you are now and by assessing your current needs.

One final note. Make sure your actions are in line with and contributing to your clarity of purpose. If your clarity of purpose currently is making money, then you probably don't have time for a casual coffee with a business associate just to talk about the weather.

People change and their needs change. So make sure your clarity of purpose matches your current needs. And if your clarity of purpose at the moment is, "I am focused on making money", then that is okay.
