Ten Tips For Business Success Using Online Social Media
Online social networking is all the buzz these days. It is no longer an option for small business owners. Here are a few tips to help you get started the right way using social networking to grow your business.
1. Set aside time every day or every week to work on your social networks. For example, set aside 30 minutes every morning or set aside one hour a week. Schedule it. Update and network at least once a week.
2. Take advantage of the “Answers” section of LinkedIn to learn what your customers want. For example, ask the question, “What are the main traits you look for when seeking an HVAC person?”
3. Decide if you want quantity or quality in your social networks. Do you want thousands of people or do you want a targeted group of people who are more likely to become customers?
4. The three main social networks I use are Twitter, Facebook, and LinkedIn. Find the one that works for you, gain some momentum in building your network then add another. I would suggest LinkedIn as a starting point.
5. Have consistency between all your profiles. For example, have the same bio (or Profile) on all your online social networks.
6. Start a blog using either Wordpress, Typepad, or Blogger. Blogger.com is an excellent place to start if you are new to blogging.
7. Do not use social media to push your products or services. Educate your target market and use social media to position yourself as the expert in your field.
8. Have a clear reason for implementing an online social marketing strategy. Who are you trying to reach? Define your target audience. Know your message.
9. Keep your appearance professional. Don’t allow people into your network that could potentially deliver an unprofessional message or give people an unprofessional perspective of your business.
10. Participate in discussion groups. Join groups that are related to your field of interest or your business.
